I've come up with what I think is a pretty clever idea for a Cards Against Humanity-style party game, and while I consider myself as someone with a pretty good sense of humor, I don't think that I can realistically come up with the (approximately) 450 wacky "joke" ideas/cards that the game calls for.
I've already tried to milk my friends for ideas, and while all of them were initially enthusiastic about my idea, none of them had time to help (understandable, of course, everybody's busy with their own lives).
So now I'm at the point where I'm actually considering putting out a "(Joke) Writers Wanted" ad on Craigslist, or even this forum, and paying people to come up with wacky, CAH-style ideas that I can use in my game.
But before I do, I wanted to get everyone's opinion on two points...
1) What would you consider to be reasonable payment fee for this sort of project? I would want to make it worth someone's while, but at the same time, I'm on the proverbial shoe-string budget, so it's not like I can pay someone by the hour to come up with funny ideas.
One idea I had is to pay $2 dollars for every joke submitted. So someone could potential make a quick $100 cash just by coming up with 50 or so wacky ideas. Easy money for someone with a twisted sense of humor and some free time on their hands.
Does this sound reasonable? Too low?
The second point concerns the use of NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements). Perhaps I'm being paranoid, or way over-valuing my idea, but given the fact that I think it's a pretty marketable idea for a game that would be super easy to produce, I'm wondering if it would be foolish of me not to require any potential "content writers" to sign off on some sort of simple confidentiality form?
Or am I just exhibiting amateur-level fears here?
Maybe I am, but man would it suck to have someone swipe my idea and run with it all the way to the bank!
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Your offer of $2.00 per card sounds more than fair. I am wondering if you are still looking to hire a writer for this? I just came across this part of The Game Crafter and enjoy parodies and satire. Working on a similar concept for a Halloween themed CAH/ Apples to Apples style game at this very moment myself. My account on TGC is set for personal messages. If you wish to contact me through it, I will be happy to give you my email, which I check more frequently, and we can discuss your project and goals.
